Dutch baroque painting has (in contrast to it's earlier Italian predecessor) less to do with religion or history. More an expression of every day life and secularism. What it has in common is the style of painting, with much attention to detail and a clear light and dark effect (claire obscure). It is also known as northern realism version of the baroque style.
